Holland Shipyards Group to build new coastal research vessel for Havforskningsinstituttet

Havforskningsinstituttet, the Norwegian Institute of Marine Research, has awarded Holland Shipyards Group a contract for the delivery of a new coastal research vessel. The new vessel is expected to enter service by the end of 2022.

The new vessel, which will be designed by LMG Marin AS, measures 35 by 10 m and will be used for data collection, fish stock sampling and monitoring the sea areas in the Norway’s coastal zones. The vessel will be designed, built and equipped as a modern research vessel and also perform core activities such as diving, use of ROV and deployment and retrieval of buoys, landers, power rigs, gliders, AUV, towable camera and so on.

To fulfill its research duties at sea, the vessel is designed and equipped with 2 laboratories and a fishery acoustics center, allowing modern and efficient execution of its various research tasks simultaneously.

Building of the vessel will start in Q3 2021 at the Holland Shipyards Group’s yard in Hardinxveld-Giessendam.

This contract award adds another medium sized yet highly complex project / vessel to our order book. Over the last couple of years Holland Shipyards Group’ newbuilding activities have been mainly focused on the construction of hybrid and fully electric ferries, four of which for other Norwegian owners. We are extremely proud and thankful to have earned the trust of Havforskningsinstituttet and look forward to working on this top of the line vessel in our yard!
